Reserves dominate for good winWednesday, 13 May 2009 10:52 Margaret River 0, Dunsborough 4A revitalised Dunsborough Towners reserve side returned to the winner’s list with a comfortable 4-0 win over Reserve league cellar dwellers Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday. But for the first 20 minutes it was Margaret River’s young brigade that looked the more composed and created major problems to Dunsborough’s defence without actually presenting a significant threat in attack. The first-half had little to recommend it until late in the half when a bending shot from Towners midfielder Jake Smith sped past the upright. Then in the 39th minute Keiron McCabe found himself through with an open goal at his mercy from close range when he appeared to be dragged back forcing his shot to graze the outside of the post with calls for penalty falling on deaf ears. Young winger Aiden Greig finally eased Dunsborough’s nerves in the 43rd minute when he found plenty of space in midfield to advance and then hit a superb 25 metre drive that dipped and flew under the cross bar with goalkeeper David Giles well beaten. It was significant that Tony Plumb returned to the heart of the defence as sweeper and his presence, missing last week in a 6-2 loss the Bunbury Dynamo, was vital in halting River’s early dominance. With Doug Horsford’s speed in covering dangerous players and Jake Finney’s enthusiastic return to the game Dunsborough looked a better balanced side. The second-half, generally, was controlled by the Towners and when Greig, the Beano's Café Player of the Match, converted from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute any resistance by the home side evaporated. Seven minutes later a neat pass from Greig found youth player Kaden Heathcote who scored his first goal for the club to put the game beyond doubt. The icing on the cake arrived in the 81st minute when a long throw-in from Keiron McCabe was met by Kenny Anderson who back headed his first goal for the Towners.
